Three common misconceptions about rabbit keeping in Japan

Misconception #1: Rabbits are suitable pets for beginners.

Rabbits are more difficult to care for than dogs or cats. Starting to keep a rabbit without the right knowledge regarding diet, environment, medical care, and mental support can lead to serious stress and health problems. The idea that they are "quiet and low-maintenance" is a major misconception. Furthermore, HRS (Human Resources Society) does not recommend purchasing rabbits from pet shops. They strongly recommend adopting rabbits that have already been rescued and are waiting for a family.

Misconception #2: A small cage is sufficient. Rabbits are naturally highly athletic animals that can run several kilometers a day. Living in a small cage causes serious stress and weakens their bones. HRS recommends providing a large play area and creating a set time each day for them to roam freely around the room.

Misconception #3: Triangular litter boxes are standard. The triangular litter boxes that are common in Japanese pet shops are too small for rabbits. If your rabbit keeps having accidents, it's almost always because of the litter box itself, not a training issue.
